With a shoddy start to the season, and some unfortunate injuries, Wenger is facing one of the more interesting January windows in recent history. Arsenal are in such obvious need of full backs that the prices will skyrocket in that area, but Wenger is playing it cool as usual, claiming his normal “if we find quality we’ll buy” mantra to mask what’s really going on behind the scenes. We all know the story of how Fernando Torres became the most expensive Premier League signing in history with his £50m move from Liverpool to Chelsea in January 2011, but no one could have predicted how the Spaniard would plummet in form, failing to score in his first 13 games for Chelsea, only scoring a total of 5 goals in 35 appearances.
