Arsenal Report celebrating five years!

Posted by Ix Techau about 8 years ago · 52 replies

On a cold and rainy (or sunny and awesome, can't remember) February 3rd in 2011, we launched Arsenal Report as a blog for tactical analysis. We wanted to offer something different to the other blogs, which were mostly day-to-day thoughts. We always had plans for something more, so through the years the site morphed into more of a database, starting with the Transfer Centre in 2013.

In late 2014 we dropped the blog format completely to focus more on what we do best: data collection and presentation. The Injury Room is now by far the most accurate injury database for Arsenal available, and the Transfer Centre is now the most complete and advanced transfer database spanning Wenger's tenure.

Today the site has completely changed from what it started out as, and we're constantly tweaking and changing things. To celebrate these five years we're going to have a few competitions!

1. Suggestion Box - prize: Arsenal 15-16 home shirt
We are constantly looking for cool new ideas and features for the site. Today we want you to suggest anything and everything. We'll pick a winner tomorrow for the best suggestion, and that person will win a brand spanking new 15-16 home shirt! To enter: write your suggestion(s) in this thread, or do it on Twitter using the hashtag #ARSuggestionBox

2. Random Draw - prize: limited edition 2014 FA Cup pin badge
Later tonight we'll draw two random winners from this forum that will each receive a limited edition 2014 FA Cup winners pin badge. To enter, all you have to do is register an account and hope for the best.

3. Treasure Hunt - prize: shopping at Arsenal online, up to £30
Somewhere on the site we've hidden Emmanuel Eboué. If you find him he will give you a three-digit code. Post the code in this thread for a chance to win a £30 shopping spree bonanza at Arsenal's online shop. We'll be giving you clues in this thread throughout the day as to where Eboué is hiding.

Ummm...what are you waiting for? GO!

Thanks for all the suggestions today! Small summary with a few notes:

1. Stats table showing all competitions (AndrasGal)
I would love to do this, but it unfortunately hinges on one or two taking ownership of it to keep it updated. I just don't have the time for it. We started doing the prediction league table a while back but someone else needs to step up for that to be updated on a regular basis.

2. GIFs or videos of goals and highlights (AndrasGal)
I try to stay away from stuff that others simply do much better. I'd love to bring Arsenalist over to AR instead, but I've been trying to merge with other sites for years and people just aren't interested. They want to do their own thing, which is fine.

3. Player contract details (AndrasGal, jinchurikified)
I get this request a lot, and unfortunately there are zero reliable sources on it. It's all pure speculation, simply because it's confidential information.

4. Financial details about the contacts we've had with the sponsors (jinchurikified)
A general Finances section would be good.

5. Live stream for games (VA10)
This would be fantastic. I have looked into it, but it requires huge amounts of bandwidth and a server located in a strategic country. I'd prefer not going to jail.

6. Email notifications for new injuries or transfers (Praxeum, Alex)
Yup, I think this is a good one.

7. Private messages (Praxeum)
Hmmm...maybe.

8. Ticket hub (Praxeum)
Also been thinking about this but like the GIF/video thing there are others that already do a pretty good job, specifically arsenal_tickets on Twitter.

9. Custom smileys (VA10)
Yeah getting more and more sold on it, but struggling to figure out how it should work. Just smileys inside of text is a bit meh. Should be that you can attach like a sticker to a comment, or something like that.

10. Sidebar dashboard (STUART)
Gotcha, unfortunately it's a bit like #1 in that it needs one or two people to take ownership of it to keep it updated.

11. A picture of Harry Kane in an Arsenal kit (Morleys)
Mmmmmmmmm.

12. Search bar (Rabbit)
Yeah I'm also feeling the need for this now. Gonna be tricky as there are so many different searchable models on the site. Players, teams, events, posts, comments, users, etc. If I need to search right now I just google 'eisfeld site:arsenalreport.com', works well....but yes there should be an onsite search.

13. Improved player profiles (Rabbit)
Agreed, these will get expanded more in the coming months.

Please keep them coming!

Alright. LET'S ANNOUNCE SOME FUCKING WINNERS!

1. Suggestion Box - 15-16 Home Shirt
Some really good suggestions yesterday and I'll most likely implement a few of them. I really like the idea of signing up to get an email notification whenever we buy, sell or injure a player, so I'm picking that as my winning suggestion.
Winner: Praxeum

2. Random Draw - Limited edition 2014 FA Cup sinners pin/badge
The randomiser has decided.
Winners: VA10 and STUART

3. Emmanuel Eboué treasure hunt - £30 shopping spree at Arsenal online
First person to find him!
Winner: Herbert

I was also running a competition on Twitter to draw another random name for a 15-16 home shirt, will announce that winner on Twitter.

Winners, email me your addresses and other details: [email protected]

Ive seen it on some forums the possibilities with player face smileys are endless. Imagine finishing your point with Flamini's face. The face has to be obviously cut out without background.

As for me winning the pin, I'm not in UK and won't be there for at least 6 months. I assume shipping worldwide is extra cost so you can give it to someone else :)

I don't really mind to be honest. Up to you! If you'd rather give it to someone else, you'll have to pick the name. ;)
