Selection headache

Posted by VA10 over 8 years ago · 6 replies

Sooo there are a couple of positions where it's really though to decide who should be a starter. Debuchy and Bellerin was a contest but now with Debuchy's form Bellerin is a nobrainer. Per and Gabriel are head to head, Gibbs will push Monreal for his spot, in the middle Coq is guaranteed but the 2nd spot is debatable Ramsey or Santi? Number 10 is Ozil. 1 wing for Alexis 2nd for Ox or Theo or Welbeck or Santi or Ramsey? And the our striker Giroud, Welbeck or Theo?

I think it depends on what shape we're actually going for. We still don't know 100% if Coquelin is supposed to be a sole DM with two AMs in front of him, or if it's actually a double pivot two-one midfield. Perhaps it's not even defined by Wenger, formations work differently in real life compared to FM or FIFA.

Debuchy is not in form, but he hasn't been playing consistent first team football for more than a year. Even in this current form he's still a better tackler and reader of the game than Bellerin, so I still prefer him at this point. For me Bellerin/Gibbs and Monreal/Debuchy are the exact same type of players. Debuchy/Monreal offers more defensive stability, Gibbs/Bellerin offers more going forward.

So for me the question about full back selection comes down to what opposition we're facing. If we play a lesser club that plays a narrow shape, I'd go full out Gibbs + Bellerin. If we're facing Chelsea or Man City away, I'd go Debuchy + Monreal.

CB pairing should stay Gabriel + Koscielny for the next ten years, they are the start of something solid. Complement each other perfectly, Gabriel is a huge talent.

Wouldn't mind Theo as our CF for a while. It's been a long time coming, he's requested this for years. Let him have a proper go, see if he can do it or not.

I would have agreed on Debuchy Bellerin approach but seeing him against Tottenham didn't help his case. He couldn't have read a play that day if it was written in front of him.
