The Almighty 2015 Summer Transfer Window Thread

Posted by VA10 about 9 years ago · 476 replies

I know it's too early but I've just had a brilliant idea of an ideal Summer transfer window so I opened the thread, sue me.

So the news is we'll have 50 million quid for the Summer, here's what I'd do:

  • 10 million for Cech, he's the kind of a goalkeeper that wins you trophies
  • 40 million for Reus, love the guy
  • Khedira on a free.

Boom cancel the transfer window we've won it.

Still can't pull off a list on this contraption...

Is there any reason that's acceptable why Wenger's post shouldn't be under threat if we finish 10 points behind City thus fail to challenge?

Let's see where we are in January. The stubbornness is getting tiring, but Wenger does have two FA Cup trophies in the last two years so he's obviously doing something right.

With Man City and Chelsea making the Premier League their own competition, and then Man Utd and Liverpool throwing cash around as if they won a lottery, it's unrealistic to think that we should be automatically fighting for the title. There are four tiers of quality in the Premier League:

  1. Man City and Chelsea
  2. Arsenal, Liverpool and Man Utd
  3. Most other teams
  4. Three or four guaranteed relegation candidates

It's going to take a long time to upset that balance. And until we do, we'll be fighting for third or second place, at best.

SO with Klopp out maybe will be easier to fight for Reus ? They can justify selling him for some reconstruction of the team.

Getting Reus would be just as hard (costly) regardless of who's in charge. We are in desperate need of a left winger to complete our squad though, and if Reus is as good as everyone claims he is, then he's worth the money. Imagine going into a season with a complete squad.

Take Henry out of Arsene's team and the same would apply, what's your point?

Not even comparable. At the height of Barca's reign, they were the definition of a one-man team. Messi decided all the biggest games on his own, and as soon as he was unavailable the team was mediocre, at best. It wouldn't have mattered what formation or strategy Guardiola used. He could have played a traditional 4-4-2 and still win all those trophies, as long as Messi was on the pitch.

Although Henry probably was the greatest player in our history, our success was not a result of one man, but rather a solid core and fantastic team balance and unity.

Well if the best player the game has ever seen plays for you surely you're going to make everything go through him? What is he gonna do, make Pedro the main man just to prove a point?

Bayern are shoe-in's for the CL this season and none of their individual players are as good as Cristiano/Messi. This is a team that is completely decimated by impact injuries and are still tearing teams to shreds. Guardiola doesn't only have a plan A, he has a plan B, C, D, E, F, G etc etc.

I'm not saying he did something wrong, I'm just saying he has zero experience of being at a club like Arsenal. We don't have a Messi type player.

Bayern are shoe-in's for the CL this season and none of their individual players are as good as Cristiano/Messi.

Even if that was true (Arjen Robben?), the Bayern he inherited was a perfect team created by Heynckes. It had a perfect balance in every single position, and was a perfect defensive unit. So the point remains: Guardiola has never actually managed a team that wasn't either perfect or had the best player in the world by a mile in it.

This is a team that is completely decimated by impact injuries and are still tearing teams to shreds. Guardiola doesn't only have a plan A, he has a plan B, C, D, E, F, G etc etc.

Worth remembering that Bundesliga, like La Liga, is a glorified two-horse race with only one likely outcome. Besides, shitty Wolfsburg are only ten points behind, so Bayern have hardly dominated the league as much as people think. Also in the Champions League they only barely won against Man City, Roma and CSKA, and lost against Man City on the return. The only shredding was the 1-7 result against Roma away.

The only impressive part about Bayern is their defensive organisation, but that is, as we all know, a relic of Heynckes work. It has little to do with Guardiola,

I'd still like to see Guardiola get an actual task assigned to him. Take over a team that isn't perfect...see if he could actually manage a normal club. I just don't want Arsenal to be that experiment, as I'm convinced he would fail miserably.

I want Diego simeone to lead Arsenal when AW decides to retire. He is tactically good and has done really good compared to the budget he has had. I like the was his team play tika taki and physically abusing the opponent. That would suit Arsenal and EPL, he was pain for Mou in spain.

I don't know, he's too much of a character, too much of a Klopp for my taste. I just want a tactician. He can be boring as fuck, as long as he actually arrives with some fresh ideas and tactical nous.

I think I may have put a curse on Pep.

First they lose, now he's gone batshit crazy at Bayern's medical team and their doctor of nearly 40 years has resigned. Next thing we know he'll be at Liverpool and the meltdown will be complete

Different environments can cause behavior to change! Alexis was supposed to be a diver and a moaning bitch...with right people around him he is doing well. With right backing, clear head and correct board members he can lead us, but only with AW is gone. I want AW to stay for now.

Seems Pep did have a gameplan, let Porto have a brief period of hope before obliterating them at home.
