Wow this is the first time I've heard that Giroud doesn't do anything apart from scoring. Before it was he's good but he doesn't score enough... Anyways... He's up there with anyone with hold up play, wins a lot of long balls, has the ability to contribute in the build up (do you think it's a coincidence he's involved in most of our beautiful goals?), scores goals etc. I mean to suggest he doesn't do anything but score goals is very strange to say the least.... Given you watch our games.

No top strikers miss as many big opportunities as he does. His hold up play is good, he has neat flick one & he has a strong presence. However he is slow as fuck, very erratic finishing, a poor mentality and useless on the counter.

For me his at the bottom of that list, van Persie was unreal at his time at Arsenal & arguably the best striker in the World at his pomp here. Adebayor was ridiculous before he moved to City & no-one can handle him. Anelka was quality and could've been near Henry level if his brothers didn't ruin his career.

Sure Giroud is involved in a lot of play with the hold-up play, flick one etc; but no top club has a striker like him starting for them. You dont win titles with a strong, slow & unexciting target man up front. The fact that all of our play runs through someone who is slow & can't beat a man is holding our attacking potential back. It slows our entire game down and makes everything dull and predictable.

He'd be a good plan B though.

It would be interesting to see if there are any stats supporting this. I suspect he's at a similar level to other reputable strikers.

I agree that he's not great at countering, which is why it's important to have many different player types in the squad so we can use the right players for the right occasion. Welbeck is a better option against big teams if we want to do a smash-n-grab, but if we expect to dominate the midfield for 90 minutes I think Giroud is a better option.

I don't know where you get poor mentality from? What do you mean? Work rate?

Let's not be ridiculous. Van Persie was very good for a short period, and pretty mediocre before that. Injuries, sure...but still mediocre. Best striker in the world even in his prime? Not even close.

Adebayor was ridiculous before he moved to City & no-one can handle him.

That's a romantic memory of what was actually going on. I remember Adebayor as being extremely inconsistent and struggling to get going. Also missing a bunch of chances. On a good day he was fantastic, but on most days he was average, at best.

Anelka was quality and could've been near Henry level if his brothers didn't ruin his career.

I'd say Anelka became quality eventually, but in his time with us he was a raw diamond that had a few good moments.

Like Diego Costa? Or Miroslav Klose? Or Mandzukic? ;)

Yeah I think at home against lesser teams Giroud is the perfect option, but as shown from the United game, Welbeck's pace and willingness was key to our victory. We should really adapt to certain situations really but we know that was rarely the case. But thankfully that seems to be changing.

Nah, he doesn't have the ruthless mentality needed from a world-class striker. He's too much of a pansy for someone of his stature and spends half his time moaning where he should be doing his most to get into the heads of the opposition players. It's what Diego Costa does so well. He simply doesn't have the killer instinct in him.

He was honestly unreal. Considering the amount of shit he had around him, to get near 30 goals in a Premier League season with Andre Santos in the team is staggering. He always had potential to be great, but unfortunately for him he was injury prone as fuck and therefore was only at his peak for around 3 years.

Depends, if he was poor he was terrible. Always offside, looked like a donkey. But let's not forget he did score ~25 goals in a season for us, and was pretty good in the big games.

I'd say Anelka became quality eventually, but in his time with us he was a raw diamond that had a few good moments.

Displaced an Ian Wright, was crucial to our double win as just a teenager, scored 17 league goals. He was definitely special and as I said, his brothers ruined his career.

That's the thing, I don't really like them three strikers either apart from Diego Costa. Diego Costa is a lot more than just a strong target man, he can dribble, he is a lot faster than Giroud and he is an absolute nightmare to deal with. I just hate static and slow strikers, which Giroud is most of the time.

You don't always need a big targetman up front as a lone striker. Suarez or Agüero would've slotted in just fine and we would be a much, much better team because of it. It's entirely dependent on the football being played. And I for one am bored of our football in the last few years. I want us to go to a Mourinho-esque at Madrid type counter. That was some of the best football I've seen in the past 4-5 years.
