The Almighty 2015 Summer Transfer Window Thread

Posted by VA10 about 9 years ago · 476 replies

I know it's too early but I've just had a brilliant idea of an ideal Summer transfer window so I opened the thread, sue me.

So the news is we'll have 50 million quid for the Summer, here's what I'd do:

  • 10 million for Cech, he's the kind of a goalkeeper that wins you trophies
  • 40 million for Reus, love the guy
  • Khedira on a free.

Boom cancel the transfer window we've won it.

Still can't pull off a list on this contraption...

Is there any reason that's acceptable why Wenger's post shouldn't be under threat if we finish 10 points behind City thus fail to challenge?

Let's see where we are in January. The stubbornness is getting tiring, but Wenger does have two FA Cup trophies in the last two years so he's obviously doing something right.

With Man City and Chelsea making the Premier League their own competition, and then Man Utd and Liverpool throwing cash around as if they won a lottery, it's unrealistic to think that we should be automatically fighting for the title. There are four tiers of quality in the Premier League:

  1. Man City and Chelsea
  2. Arsenal, Liverpool and Man Utd
  3. Most other teams
  4. Three or four guaranteed relegation candidates

It's going to take a long time to upset that balance. And until we do, we'll be fighting for third or second place, at best.

Yes because they added 2 players in the starting line up. AND also because everyone else was absolute shit so they capitalized on that.

I count four in the starting XI alone: Fabregas, Matic, Courtois, Diego Costa.

Their player turnover for the first team was eight players this season. I know what you're saying, but we can't just blindly think that starting XI is all that matters for team balance. It's simply not true that more than 2-3 players added results in poor performances and lack of silverware. Just look at all the clubs that won something last year and see how many players they added to both their squad and their starting XI.

Adding more then 2-3 players in first team is not problem, but you cant expect everyone to be first XI quality and that will have impact in first season. This season Chelsea starting XI have 3 new players, don't know why you count Matic.

IT can work, but you can see all big teams dont have this practice, only teams that want to catch up and have lack of quality do it. Thats what MC and Chelsea did on start and now MU. In past years i'm sure we could have done better with few more first XI players even if that was over the 2-3 per season, but we weren't uber rich to do it and we had Stadium to pay out.

Now lets hope we move on same as last 2 years, and add each year at least one great quality (star) in the team and few other players that complement the team.

Matic came in winters! I suspect we will buy two big players this season, AW will be in last year of his contract and he would like to go out (hopefully not)with a Bang! Wishlist

1) Rues 2) Clément Grenier 3) Pedro

who ever AW can lay hand on.

Why would we want Grenier? All of our players in midfield are better than him. I'd even go as far as to say Flamini offers more than him. At least we can throw him in later stages of the game to defend a lead.

I rate Grenier more than Flamini, beside that he is young, cheap, french and has lots of potential that needs to be nurtured and AW can harvest it. He is taller and faster than flamini, he has a good work rate and plays long balls really well. With so many injuries happening to our midfielders adding wont hurt. We can invest the savings on a TOP TOP TOP player.

Don't think we need him though. Flamini is a better defensively. We have enough players who can pass the ball as good as him. What we need is another CDM better than Flamini to rival Coquelin.

Plus his technique is fantastic. His ability to become an additional playmaker on the left hand side is also another reason why I want him. Alexis seems to become a bit too predictable on the left so I think someone who possesses vision & passing like Reus would be great for us.

Yes, exactly.

Unless he goes on runs where he goes for ages without scoring. Which is just a ploy to lure the opposition into a false sense of security.

To be fair he came from a club where he was used as a sub to a club where he's asked to be the main man, didn't have a proper pre season, not used to playing with his teammates yet and first season in his career without a winter break. He should be absolutely on fire next season...
