The almighty 2016-2017 summer transfer window thread

Posted by Ix Techau about 8 years ago · 586 replies

Yarmolenko is starting to talk about Everton being a better fit form him than Barca because he wants to play regularly rather than "take selfies with Messi". Never thought he would even think about leaving, I'd take him in a heartbeat.

Unless he goes to Man Utd, Man City or Chelsea of course, then I'll claim I never really wanted him.

Sign a player at a position that already has 3 starters. That's business. Meanwhile, detritus like Walcott is handed a spot on the 1st team because they are unwilling to address the gaping holes in the squad. Xhaka is going to be their only signing. They thought they had Vardy in the bag, and didn't even bother to think of any contingencies. Typical.

So now you're an insider who knows what Arsenal are thinking in terms of making plans if a transfer doesn't go through, or even better you know if we're planning to sign anyone else or not. WOW! ITK LEVEL GODLIKE

We signed Xhaka. Transfer window is still open. Stop spreading your negativity, we understand you cry yourself to sleep at nights. WE GET IT. THANK YOU.

Think the point is that history proves we won't actually get the positions we need. Can you name one transfer window in which we signed adequate players for the holes in the squad? I'm looking forward to Xhaka, but it's a signing that should have been made years ago.

Is it a fact? Who we need and how many additions is only opinions. Never facts.

Is it a fact? Who we need and how many additions is only opinions. Never facts.

Well here are two facts:

  1. We don't have any natural left wingers in the squad
  2. We play a system with wingers

Since we know these two things we therefore know we need a left winger. We also know we've been needing a solid DM since Gilberto, seeing as every fan, pundit, expert, coach and manager in the country has said so since 2008. Xhaka, although not really a pure DM, is hence a signing we should have done years ago. Not really an opinion is it. Wenger was the only person on this planet that didn't see the need to replace Gilberto.

Here's another fact, brought to you by stats™...this is a list of central defenders who statistically outperformed Per Mertesacker last season:

  • Van Dijk
  • Otamendi
  • Gabriel
  • Jagielka
  • Mori
  • Williams
  • Kaboul
  • Reid
  • Smalling
  • Alderweireld
  • Huth
  • Morgan
  • Sakho
  • Vertonghen
  • Dann
  • Fonte
  • Cook
  • Wollscheid
  • Fernandez
  • Lovren
  • Skrtel
  • Collins
  • Mangala
  • Delaney
  • Clark
  • Zouma

We currently have Koscielny, Mertesacker, Gabriel and Chambers as our CB options, of which only Koscielny is considered the default first choice. Since the facts are telling us Mertesacker isn't really up to scratch, we have a few options: a) trust Gabriel to keep a cool head for an entire season, b) hope Mertesacker improves, c) put our faith in 21-year old Chambers who has spent most of his career playing at right-back, or d) buy a CB befitting a club of our stature.

Only Wenger and his kool-aid drinking acolytes could ague that we don't need to strengthen the core of this team.

So any time someone confronts you with facts, you dismiss them for talking in hindsight, and whenever someone doesn't talk in hindsight, you dismiss them for stating opinions, rather than facts?

It seems to me that you prefer to engage in bullshit word games and personal attacks rather than defending the substance of your blind faith in that senile old fool.

So arsenal are supposedly interested in signing lacazette who has a 34million release clause. Now, for whatever reason they are supposedly unable to agree to a fee, in spite of this release clause? How does that make sense? Just meet the release clause?

Or are they afraid of another disgraceful embarrassment like Vardy fiasco? Afraid to meet release clause because they don't think he'll want to join arsenal?

I hope this article is just newspaper fiction, because if what it's written it's true, it's clear that arsenal is on the decline.

Olympique Lyon claims that there is no release clause in lacazette contract. At least that serves to explain why arsenal hasn't activated it yet.

Well I'm going to say what I said on Twitter: I honestly have no idea why we're not bidding £100m for Griezmann. The kid is fantastic and will be one of the best strikers on the planet for the next ten years. I know he just signed a new contract, but so what...bid £100m to see what happens. Worst case scenario they say no, best case scenario we get a shot at signing a real world class striker (not these faux ones like Vardy, Lacazette, etc).

Marca say Madrid aren't listening to any offers for Morata and Daily Mail are saying that we're not willing to spend £42m on Lacazette.

Oh dear, let's just hope we inject enough PEDs into Giroud so that he can run 100m in 8 seconds otherwise there's another title chance thrown out the window before the seasons even begun

Morata is shit. Nothing in his football career show he is or can be great player. He can go and become wonder boy, but thats whatis needed for him to be top striker, wonder.

Not sure Lacazette is even close to that price, but we got to overspend, we cant stay one more year hoping someone will shine and carry us out of this players. We got to get Winger, Attacker and CB. Even if we desire to go on one of the wings with creative midfielder. I have send this demands to Arsenal FC, they better take me serious, or else.
