The almighty 2016-2017 summer transfer window thread

Yarmolenko is starting to talk about Everton being a better fit form him than Barca because he wants to play regularly rather than "take selfies with Messi". Never thought he would even think about leaving, I'd take him in a heartbeat.

Unless he goes to Man Utd, Man City or Chelsea of course, then I'll claim I never really wanted him.

Point being that we say the same thing every year, and every year we end up not winning the league.

We should say that every year. Is there an alternative way to tell what will happen when the season ends? We've won it before and we'll win it again. In Arsene we trust. God bless you and God bless mother Russia.

The fact of the matter is that arsenal as an organization are unwilling to do what it takes to compete with United, city and Chelsea.

What's of greatest concern is that they are not seeing that they are also, now, refusing to compete financially with the likes of spurs, Liverpool, everyone, and even West Ham.

Top 4 is no longer a given. They will not get away with performances like 05, 06, 08, 09, 10, 11, and 12. If they were going to win the league Under wenger, it would have been last year, where you had the perfect storm of United, city, and Chelsea all completely sucking. Had they made the appropriate investment in the squad (in other words, had they spent half of what the big 3 spent), they would have been runaway Champions. Instead they petered out in January because wenger is too ethical to actually try and win, insisting that success may only come organically.

Making excuses about the euros and the lack of fitness of the squad only highlights wengers deficiencies in the transfer market and in tactical approach.

The claim that because something bad happened before, so it must happen again typifies the arrogant complacency wenger and the board adopt as their standard. They assume success will inevitably come to them, rather than actually having to be proactive and staking claim to it. Last season dispelled that notion.

Fact of the matter is City United Chelsea can spend and have spend 70+ million quid on players who have failed and they've got over it like it never happened. We don't have that luxury hence the extra caution.

Correction: we have chosen not to allow ourselves that luxury. We could have that luxury, but choose not to, because of some holier-than-thou ethical philosophy in finances based on nothing more than Wenger's opinion of "silly money".

Yes, instead of taking the necessary risks to actually win, arsenal is just limiting their aims to top 4 (which is no longer going to be a given when you have teams like everton, spurs, West Ham, Liverpool making 8 figure outlays with top 4 ambitions and teams like Leicester and Southampton coming out of nowhere to threaten the top of the table).

Wenger wants to paint the teams impotence in transfers as prudence, but the fact of the matter is that they would rather limit their ambitions to a ucl berth rather than taking the necessary risks to assemble a squad that can actually compete for the title.

Last season proved that the passive approach of hoping for the 3 real clubs to all suck at the same time doesn't even work. Since arsenal are managed by an Olaf, they were outfoxed by a bunch of penniless foxes.

This is the crux of the problem. The aim is consistency, not success. Sure, taking more risks could result in more inconsistent performances like Chelsea or Man Utd have experienced lately, but it can also result in titles being won.

We need to show some sort of ambition otherwise Alexis & Mesut will be packing their bags before next season starts. Probably the reason why Arsene is trying to spunk £80+m on a striker rather than buying the French Defoe

Alexis and mesut could end up packing their bags before the month is out. Especially since we are talking about arsenals pathetic spineless board being in charge.
