Monday Night Football analysis of Man Cunty vs Arsenal

Some quotes from Gary Neville (because let's face it...who the fuck cares about what Jamie Carragher says?):

In certain games there is nothing wrong about dropping back and respecting the team you're playing against. Sticking to your own principles is borderline lacking respect at times the way Arsenal are playing.

We were wrong [when saying] Rosicky and Coquelin would struggle. [Wenger] adapted, he changed, he made them more disciplined. It was encouraging to say the least.

[Mertesacker ducking against Southampton] is the worst kind of leadership, it's leadership minus a thousand. That is the worst type of thing you can see on a football pitch. You talk about learning and progression, this was a progression in more ways than one. Not just in their approach in general, but also to defend 16 corners from Man City is a magnificent achievement.

The only thing I agree with Jamie Carragher on is the ridiculous celebrations after the game, as if we won a cup. Small club mentality treating a win like that. Would rather have seen us act like it was no big deal at all. We're a huge club, let's act like it.

Are you referring to the players or the fans? I personally didn't see any players over celebrating. All I saw was just some casual hand shakes and hugs. At least on TV. Did they over celebrate?

Players were throwing their shirts, shinpads and accessories into the stand, I saw plenty of photos from the dressing room of players celebrating like we won the Champions League. It just rubbed me the wrong way.

While I would have preferred that they didn't celebrate like that, I don't mind. It's understandable that they would celebrate like that, the manner of the our is a big step in the right direction.

Yeah, to be honest, I personally don't mind as well. Worked their socks off for that win and rightly deserved.

The problem for me is that it's not only sending out small club signals to the supporters, but also to opposition teams. It's laughable and shows weakness. We shouldn't celebrate as if we're Leyton Orient winning a Champions League final against Barca anno 2010.
