Still one of the mind-boggling transfers in Wenger's era. Some say we signed him to increase shirt sales in Asia. I honestly find that hard to believe.
Anybody have any different theories?
I think Wenger's intentions were good. It was a pure panic buy, as evidenced by the hotel room mix up and last minute change of heart. Wenger took a gamble, probably got recommended the player by a smooth talking agent. The fact that the player would increase shirt sales was probably just a little sales argument the agent threw in to seal the deal.
I can't imagine Wenger caring about shirt sales to this level.
