Arsenal Report celebrating five years!

Posted by Ix Techau about 8 years ago · 52 replies

On a cold and rainy (or sunny and awesome, can't remember) February 3rd in 2011, we launched Arsenal Report as a blog for tactical analysis. We wanted to offer something different to the other blogs, which were mostly day-to-day thoughts. We always had plans for something more, so through the years the site morphed into more of a database, starting with the Transfer Centre in 2013.

In late 2014 we dropped the blog format completely to focus more on what we do best: data collection and presentation. The Injury Room is now by far the most accurate injury database for Arsenal available, and the Transfer Centre is now the most complete and advanced transfer database spanning Wenger's tenure.

Today the site has completely changed from what it started out as, and we're constantly tweaking and changing things. To celebrate these five years we're going to have a few competitions!

1. Suggestion Box - prize: Arsenal 15-16 home shirt
We are constantly looking for cool new ideas and features for the site. Today we want you to suggest anything and everything. We'll pick a winner tomorrow for the best suggestion, and that person will win a brand spanking new 15-16 home shirt! To enter: write your suggestion(s) in this thread, or do it on Twitter using the hashtag #ARSuggestionBox

2. Random Draw - prize: limited edition 2014 FA Cup pin badge
Later tonight we'll draw two random winners from this forum that will each receive a limited edition 2014 FA Cup winners pin badge. To enter, all you have to do is register an account and hope for the best.

3. Treasure Hunt - prize: shopping at Arsenal online, up to £30
Somewhere on the site we've hidden Emmanuel Eboué. If you find him he will give you a three-digit code. Post the code in this thread for a chance to win a £30 shopping spree bonanza at Arsenal's online shop. We'll be giving you clues in this thread throughout the day as to where Eboué is hiding.

Ummm...what are you waiting for? GO!

It'd be really nice to have a stats table where you can see all the goals and assists of all competitions. On Whoscored and on other sites you can only check it separetly and it's quite annoying. Another feature what I think'd be cool is to have gifs or videos (dunno if it's legit) of goals and highlights, just like on arsenalist.com, I frequently visit that site to watch the goals again. And a third one: on http://www.arsenalreport.com/players when I check a player's data it'd be pretty good to know how long does his contract last, I don't know if there's a reliable site where these informations can be found.

Would be nice to have 1) a database of about current player contract details. 2) Financial details about the contacts we've had with the sponsors

Suggestion box: email notifications for new injuries or transfers. Every time an injury is added, or a transfer is made, I'd like to be able to opt-in for an email telling me about it.

Agree with that. Email digest of new discussions and summaries of transfers and injuries.

The kind of email you can scan quickly giving you knowledge just before you meet your mates at the pub for the game (eg. "Wilshlad is only 4 weeks away guys...")

Auto-subscribe people to it on registration. Needs an easy one click opt-out for those who hate email though.

Be great to have a little overview of where arsenal are in each competition on the sidebar of the home page. It could also count down the number of games left and points available.

Then some figures on the side (this is developing into a dashboard) giving the current expected goals ratio, average km run per game etc and perhaps a trend line over the season. Then comparisons to previous seasons if you click into it.

But essentially some kind of overview of Arsenals current status in terms of position and form.

A picture of Harry Kane in an Arsenal kit as the 404 page, similar to the old Bale one

Suggestions:

Search bar.

  • A search bar would be a good addition. Also include Facebook/Twitter like search for player names that lead to their profiles.

Better player profiles.

  • Add more information to player profiles. e.g. Squad number, Stats, Records they hold/held, Preferred positions/roles, Preferred foot, Favourite cereal, Fun facts.
