The almighty 2016-2017 summer transfer window thread

Yarmolenko is starting to talk about Everton being a better fit form him than Barca because he wants to play regularly rather than "take selfies with Messi". Never thought he would even think about leaving, I'd take him in a heartbeat.

Unless he goes to Man Utd, Man City or Chelsea of course, then I'll claim I never really wanted him.

Don't know why we didn't give Chambers a go near the end of the season. There's no way he could have been worse than Gabs or Per.

In regards to ST's, if the Lewa to Madrid stories are true then Benzema has to be the best option.

Guardian broke it (Stuart James), Telegraph (Jeremy Wilson), Mirror (John Cross, lol) & now BBC (Ornstein) saying it's true.

Don't think he could hack it against teams who sit back, which they do against us. Part of me thinks this could be a cracking signing, the other is we're getting a 29 year old Franny Jeffers

What's wrong with that?

A multitude of things is wrong with that. Vardy is a poacher who has excelled in a team-based defensive/counter system with zero individual freedom, most often serviced from the flanks. Arsenal's tactic is based on individual freedom in a possession-based system that focuses all its efforts through the middle. We have no positional discipline as a team.

So how do you expect a 29-year old striker to suddenly adapt to the exact opposite system he's used to, and still score 25 goals? It's just not going to happen. I mean I desperately hope I'm wrong of course, but this is lunacy. The only thing I can surmise is that Wenger is looking to change system in 2016-2017, but I can't see that happening...and even if we are, there are a handful of poachers infinitely better than Vardy anyway. Griezmann, Higuain, etc.

Finally, Wenger avoids players with off-field issues like the plague, and now he wants to sign a diving racist? None of this makes any sense. This is not the signal we should be sending.

Arsene don't give a fuck anymore. He's going out with a bang.

Seems to be focused in buying characters as well as footballers now too

Vardy can't be worse than Giroud. If nothing else, he adds depth. But I was also hoping for a better striker. I was secretly dreaming about Aubameyang.

Anyway, only time will tell.

We all want new striker and when new one is near to come we cry about the choice :) Still, confused on this news about Vardy. he for sure will give us new dimension. But striker at 29 age changing new team with as Ix said complete new style of play for him, first time in CL, and with one good year behind him.

Why not go Ibracuntovic then, I think he can be cheaper.

Hopefully Ox leaves on loan and the other two leave permanently.

Xhaka, Vardy, Ric Rod & Mkhitaryan would be an unreal summer. Would love a CB too but can't see it happening.

A striker that scores that much in a season can finish. He also bested Van Nistelroy's record, not a small thing to do... As for still criticizing Giroud, he's a brilliant striker who I back on getting the golden boot in the Euros.

Vardy getting near 18/19 in the League, Giroud getting double digits and Alexis hitting beast mode could be enough firepower

I think he'll spend half the season on the bench after a barren spell in October, at which point Giroud becomes world class and starts scoring for fun. The Vardy saga ends with him being sold to Fulham in July 2017, and Giroud picks up the golden boot for scoring 30 goals in the league.

More chance of Vardy scoring 60 in the League than Giroud ever getting over 23 League goals
