The almighty 2016-2017 summer transfer window thread

Posted by Ix Techau about 8 years ago · 586 replies

Yarmolenko is starting to talk about Everton being a better fit form him than Barca because he wants to play regularly rather than "take selfies with Messi". Never thought he would even think about leaving, I'd take him in a heartbeat.

Unless he goes to Man Utd, Man City or Chelsea of course, then I'll claim I never really wanted him.

Yup. Just you. At the moment he seems to be trying to trick Pep into thinking he's the one carrying City rather than KDB. No other explanation of that hair. I sometimes think of the squad Wenger was building, Hleb, Nasri, Cesc, Rosicky, RVP...

Cause there's no match thread, I'd like to say this.

How is anyone still scared about binning Arsene when we've seen the shitshow that is 2016?

Roll up, roll up, it's ITK time again.

The Notorious D.E.A.N said that Xhaka deal is close for ~£24m, Arsene won't leave as long as we finish in the tp four and we're keen on Mahrez. Also added that Theo/Ox may leave.

FKhanage has also said that Man City have interest in Theo Walcott. 2+2 in my view means that Jesus Navas is probably homesick again and they need another brainless winger to take his place.

Can we have a dedicated ITK watch thread with all the tweets screenshotted and assigned, will be class to look at at the end of the season when we only sign Sanogo's brother

Mahrez yes please! We will finally have a 3 first team attacking players. Alexis-Ozil-Mahrez. I just don't know what to do in our striking department... We miss a shit load of chances, Higuain is an option but he's turning 29, will cost a lot and a 4 year deal will finish when he turns 33... Someone will jump out and say we still haven't replaced RVP but strikers like him aren't growing on trees. So here's a list of strikers, I'd love us to sign one of them: Cavani, Higuain, Aubameyang (not so much), Lewandowski (please God)

You're forgetting Iwobi. Wenger now has his eyes set on his next breakthrough in a list of failed breakthroughs. He is still trying to make a point that Arsenal creates talent, despite the fact that we have never created a single world-class player outside of Ashley Cole. A few shrewd signings in his first handful of years brought us Henry, Vieira, Anelka, etc, but since then Wenger has attempted to re-create that transfer approach and failed miserably. Iwobi is now his greatest chance to build a good player from the academy so he can finally say "HA I TOLD YOU WE MAKE PLAYERS", and he will start Iwobi on the left every chance he gets.

So that rules out any winger signings. Alexis, Welbeck, Iwobi, Ramsey...we have too many players who can play on the wing to make Wenger interested in reinforcing that area. In three years when Mahrez is playing for Barca/Real/Bayern, Wenger will just say something like we were interested but had to give Iwobi a fair chance. Iwobi now probably playing for MK Dons. Rinse and repeat.

Higuain is an option but he's turning 29, will cost a lot and a 4 year deal will finish when he turns 33

That's fine, Higuain will likely stay sharp for another two seasons anyway so he'll be worth the money. But Wenger doesn't think like that. I guarantee he has some convoluted rationale as to why Theo, Giroud and Welbeck all have problems scoring, instead of the actual reason. In his mind they just need some time.

Wenger's so-called "loyalty" is admirable, but it's no way of running a football club that claims they're aiming to become a tier 1 club. There is not a single tier 1 club in history that would allow for these shenanigans. Man Utd under SAF kicked boots into Beckham's face for being a bit shit one game. That hunger and aggression, and many other qualities Wenger does not possess, is why they won so much.

Someone will jump out and say we still haven't replaced RVP but strikers like him aren't growing on trees.

Players exactly like him perhaps...but we don't need a striker exactly like him. We just need a clinical striker, and they are, contrary to popular belief, not even close to being rare. Even Spurs have one. I can easily give you a list of 20 names that would all instantly improve our goalscoring record by 100%.

Cavani, Higuain, Aubameyang (not so much), Lewandowski (please God)

Problem for me there is that Cavani and Aubameyang are not what we need. Giroud has excellent technique and is a great target man, so we have that already. We need a clinical striker, someone who when given a 1% opening at goal instantly and instinctively takes a shot. Someone who's constantly at the right place at the right time, someone whose only purpose in life is to score goals. There are many such players, none of which Wenger will sign.

Well Cavani & Aubameyang can actually move so that's a start. Aubameyang would be a perfect fit for us imo.

If it was up to me I'd bin both Giroud & Theo and start fresh. I'm bored of both of them playing for us and hope they both fuck off.

I think we'd be stuck with the same thing that hasn't worked for us since 2004. We need to re-think our system and transfer approach, because it has obviously not worked so far. Aubameyang is too much classic Wenger. We need something different. Griezmann, Zlatan, Higuain, Benzema...etc.

I'd take anyone you said but Aubameyang is also very, very close to that category. Deadly finisher whose over 6 ft and faster than Theo. Perfect foil.

Can't wait for Zlatan to join United on a 700k a week deal and get exposed. Can't comprehend how he tricked people into believing he isn't a bottler...

Just sell the useless guys and those who do not have the level : Walcott, Campbell, Ox (maybe a loan), Debuchy, Gibbs and maybe Ramsey and Welbeck !

And try to take Zlatan (if it's ok, sell Giroud too), buy Lacazette or Batshuayi.

Buy Hummels or a CB like him.

Buy Mkhitaryan or a winger like him (Marhez ?).

Buy Xhak or Kanté.

Buy a LB like Guerreiro to help Monreal.

I hope there's some kind of swap deal with Read Madrid - Ramsey for Isco. Ramsey will join his Welsh mate Bale and Arsenal get Cazorla's heir Isco. Isco will be the new Iniesta/ Cazorla.

Cazorla's injury is what cost Arsenal the title. Ramsey is a shithouse in midfield, he's not a central midfielder, he's not a winger, he's a n10. Maybe we could also flog ozil back to Madrid.

cazorla's injury fucked them. not having cover for him cost them the title. that is on wenger and the board.
