Strikers

Posted by VA10 about 9 years ago · 157 replies

I was thinking about the lack of strikers today. Is there a striker like Aguero, Suearez or Lewandowski available? Even Benzema isn't as good as them in my opinion.

TIL half a season is 26 games and scoring 20 goalsAtm everyone at Chelsea are shit, they'll pick it up sooner or later and leave us in the dust along with City

Why so negative about Arsenal?? We were expected not to finish in top 4 if first half last year and then we almost got the second one. #positive-vibes mate

No one is openly available. No 'World class ' strikers are just available. They can be tempted but their club aren't just going to sell for no reason. Especially to us. Knowing how bad we need one.

Key word 'openly'. They are all technically available, but only for the right price. If Wenger wants a world class striker he is going to have to spend world class money, that's how it has always worked, and that is how it will always work in the future.

For example, we could buy Aguero, if we wanted to. It would cost us north of £100m, but it would not be impossible, or even improbable, to believe we could get him. Money talks.

Wenger is caught between two worlds. On one hand he wants to keep spending reasonably, on the other he wants to finally add world class quality to the squad. He needs to understand how the world works outside his fantasy. So far he's managed to get hold of talent that actually wasn't wanted. Özil was an impulse buy that Real actually wasn't that bothered about losing, and Barca wanted Sanchez gone anyway because...well it's Barca and they're clueless.

Cech needed to move, etc...none of our big recent signings have been us flexing our muscles. If Wenger now wants to add that super striker he needs to finally go for it. Aguero, Benzema, Suarez, Muller, Ibrahimovic...I'd even say go for Harry Kane and coup the shit out of those filthy Spurs.

I'll never forgive Wenger for that shit with Suarez. If he bid 50-55 mil at the time, Liverpool would've sold him. Now you'd have to pay double that to sign him.

Even Benzema would cost about 50m now, and Benzema is a total donkey compared to Suarez.

Besides his wages wouldn't have been too high, about the same as Sanchez's.

We would've won the league since then. He nearly won the league for Liverpool single handedly, despite having shit players all around him.

Suarez would have left for Barca after a year. And we wouldn't have signed all the players we have since then cos they would've moved somewhere else.

The fact we aren't signing anyone else is an utter disgrace and really shows how ambitious Wenger is.

We're gonna finish 4 with no silverware and he has to go.

I can't believe Wenger would go a summer without signing at least two first team players. Especially now with all these resources. Not only do I find it improbable, but it would be a huge setback for this club if we end up signing no one. For years people said we needed a DM, Wenger did nothing. And then finally he brought Coquelin back from loan, and all of a sudden the team clicked. So the fanbase has proven him wrong on several occasions, and yet he argues his experience makes him right.

We need to improve the squad in several areas, but most importantly in the striker position. We should have enough cover for worst case scenario in other areas, but striker is the glaringly obvious position we need to deal with. And don't give me the 'who's available' argument: they all are. If you have enough cash you can buy any player on the planet, including Messi and Ronaldo.

STOP, really Ix you went in RAWK territory.

There need to be lot more things in play that transfer can be done, not just the money.

Aguero is prime example that you cant just splash money and get player. Real is biggest and richest club with idiots who splash crazy money and they still couldn't get him from Atletico or MC. If you go on with this "pay 100mil for every player" then you totally lost it.

If Madrid wanted Agüero and they had the finances to afford him, they would get him.

If Madrid wanted Agüero and they had the finances to afford him, they would get him.

Exactly. It's not 100% about money, but it's at least 99% about money. Real Madrid didn't have enough balls or cash to get Aguero from Atletico, and now they definitely don't have the cash to get him from Man City. But rest assured that if they did, they would get him.

You have to remember that footballers aren't as emotionally bound to a club as you are. You might be a huge Sony fan, but the employees at Sony wouldn't turn down a better job offer out of some perceived loyalty. Of course you'd take a salary increase. Most footballers are just employees that go where the money is, just like most people on this planet. Loyalty doesn't exist anymore.

Think about it, what loyalty would Aguero have towards Man City? What have they done for him to warrant him saying no to increased pay and better scenery?

This doesn't make any sense!!!!!!!!! Fine bid 100 million quid for Aguero. City will sell and then they'll bid 150 for Aguero so we'll sell. THERE IS NO WAY ARSENAL CAN BID MORE ON A PLAYER THAT IS WANTED BY CITY, CHELSEA AND THE OTHER FINANCIAL GIANTS.

Then what did we move to the Emirates for? To have to buy rejects all the time?

We could slap 65m take it or leave it for Benzema if we wanted to, but of course we don't have a big club mentality to do so.

So you're saying if Real Madrid want to keep Benzema they'll still sell for 65? It's just unreasonable. Then it means we'll sell Alexis for 50 million as well. This idea of pay the right price and they'll sell is absolute horseshit! PSG would buy Messi tonight if that were the case.

Obviously there's certain exceptions but every player does have a price. Then of course it depends on whether the player wants to leave; but if it's to a CL club with ambition then £££ can sway them.

If we'd signed Suarez instead of Ozil, even if he then left to Barca and we got Sanchez in return, I would've jizzed my pants. And imagine if we had both Suarez and Sanchez, my goodness, I'd be a very happy man.

So you're saying if Real Madrid want to keep Benzema they'll still sell for 65?

If that is the cutoff, then yes?

Then it means we'll sell Alexis for 50 million as well.

If Arsenal thought that was a good deal, then yes we would sell him for £50m. But I suspect someone would have to make a £60-70m+ offer for us to even consider that.

PSG would buy Messi tonight if that were the case.

If they had the money, sure. But they don't. For example, there are rumours that Man Utd would have to put together a £250m package to sign Neymar from Barcelona. If Neymar is £250m, how much do you think PSG would have to bid for Messi? I reckon easily £500m+.

And Barca would sell, no doubt in my mind at all. Imagine what they could do with £500m.

Don't think it's all about money.

On the Benzema thing: There is a domino effect happening here: if the Real Madrid sell Benzema, they'll want to buy someone too. And then again, we stumble on the "which "world class" striker are available"...

And the Barca could do a lot with £500m, but they wouldn't have the best player in the world anymore (and all the money he brings!).

It's not. But damn close.

On the Benzema thing: There is a domino effect happening here: if the Real Madrid sell Benzema, they'll want to buy someone too. And then again, we stumble on the "which "world class" striker are avaible"

Real Madrid are having cash problems. They would let Benzema go for £60m without a doubt. Is he worth £60m? No. Will we get the striker we need for less? No. Every club on the planet knows we're in desperate need of a striker, so they will be priced accordingly.

The only real question here is: does Wenger have the balls to do it?

...And the Barca could do a lot with £500m, but they wouldn't have the best player in the world anymore (and all the money he brings!).

Sure, but I don't care if Messi was twice the player he is, Barca would still sell him for £500m. It's an insane amount of cash that could bring them success for 10 years straight.
