The Almighty 2015 Summer Transfer Window Thread

Posted by VA10 about 9 years ago · 476 replies

I know it's too early but I've just had a brilliant idea of an ideal Summer transfer window so I opened the thread, sue me.

So the news is we'll have 50 million quid for the Summer, here's what I'd do:

  • 10 million for Cech, he's the kind of a goalkeeper that wins you trophies
  • 40 million for Reus, love the guy
  • Khedira on a free.

Boom cancel the transfer window we've won it.

Still can't pull off a list on this contraption...

Is there any reason that's acceptable why Wenger's post shouldn't be under threat if we finish 10 points behind City thus fail to challenge?

Let's see where we are in January. The stubbornness is getting tiring, but Wenger does have two FA Cup trophies in the last two years so he's obviously doing something right.

With Man City and Chelsea making the Premier League their own competition, and then Man Utd and Liverpool throwing cash around as if they won a lottery, it's unrealistic to think that we should be automatically fighting for the title. There are four tiers of quality in the Premier League:

  1. Man City and Chelsea
  2. Arsenal, Liverpool and Man Utd
  3. Most other teams
  4. Three or four guaranteed relegation candidates

It's going to take a long time to upset that balance. And until we do, we'll be fighting for third or second place, at best.

OUT:

  • Walcott (Liverpool/City) 20-25m (ffs Theo I do like you)
  • Campbell 5-10m
  • Podolski 3-5m
  • Flamini Free
  • Diaby Free

Total: 28-40m in with around ~300k p/w freed in wages

IN:

  • Petr Cech 10m
  • Marco Reus 35-40m
  • Morgan Schneiderlin 18-25m

Total: 63-75m

If we want Reus then unfortunately that's the only possible way. No place for all deeeez wingers

Here are my hopes and dreams:

Transfers In:
- Marco Reus, £40m
- Raphael Varane, £20m
- Petr Cech, £10m
- William Carvalho, £10m

Transfers Out:
- Joel Campbell, £8m
- Lukas Podolski, £6m
- Per Mertesacker, £6m
- Yaya Sanogo, £6m - Abou Diaby, free

Loans Out:
- Bellerin, mid-table PL team (if Jenko comes back)
- Szczesny, mid-table PL team

Net spend around £54m.

The plan would then be to have Cech challenge Ospina for the #1 spot for the season, with Szczesny learning some new moves elsewhere.

Then pair Koscielny and Varane as our first-choice CB partnership, with Gabriel and Chambers as the third-choice options. If Jenkinson comes back, have him as backup for Debuchy and send Bellerin on loan to further his skill set. The Monreal-Gibbs option will continue on the left, with the former preferred against stronger teams.

Coquelin keeps his place as first-choice DM, with William Carvalho as second-choice. The secondary CM position is filled to the brim with possible options, so no worries there. Ramsey, Wilshere, Cazorla, Ox, Arteta, Flamini, Rosicky, etc.

On the right flank, Sanchez is first-choice with Oxlade-Chamberlain as deputy. Theo Walcott is also a contender, but will struggle to get pitch time with Reus and Sanchez in the side. On the left, Reus will be first-choice by a mile, as we don't have any natural left wingers in the side.

Mesut Ozil and Santi Cazorla then battle it out for the #10 position, based on form and opposition.

Up front it's Giroud as first-choice, with Welbeck alternating. If those two are injured we have plenty of options...Sanchez, Reus, Theo, etc.

In other words:

2015-2016-window

Please, Khedira is essentially a German Diaby. Big Morgs is the guy

(I'd sell Szczesny or loan him out as well if we got Cech)

An injury like that at his age has led to multiple injuries thereafter. Besides, he's a box-to-box midfielder and we've got plenty of them. We need a holding man.

Tbh I just don't like Khedira. Especially with the wages he'll be demanding. I don't know what Arsene's gonna do in the Summer but as long as he gets in a body who is a proper DM then I'm not fussed.

He'll demand wages but he's for free...

Schneiderlin will cost at least 20 million quid + his wags which will be about 80-90k a week? 4 year contract I'm guessing. That's about 190k per week.

Again since his cruciate injury he's been on/off for fitness regularly. Too much of a gamble for me, I can't recall Morgan getting injured at all apart from recently for Southampton and he's used to the Prem.

For me
Transfer Out:- Arteta, Per, Flamini, Diaby, Martinez, Mozart

Transfer In:- RAHEEM STERLING exchange Theo if we have to. Rues\Stephan El Shaarawy,

Reus & Schneiderlin

Would be two great additions! And I actually think are realistic as well. Reus would cost a fair whack but he is pretty good at football!

I think in regard to selling players, I would cash in on Cambell and Podolski mainly. Can't see either of them getting a place in the team. I still have some hope for Szczers... Just a really long dip in form...right...

With the Sterling rumours today, I believe they are probably his agent trying to put pressure on Liverpool to increase the ££. I think he is good, but whos place would he take in the team?

Definitely realistic, although I'm not sure why we'd get Schneiderlin. Coquelin is a much better DM, and Schneiderlin wouldn't want to be backup. If the idea is to play him next to Coquelin, we have much better options there, too. If we're looking for a first choice DM/B2B we shouldn't be dipping our toes in the second tier. We should be going for world class. Pogba, etc.

Or we could just sign James Milner and win every trophy on the planet.

I would assume he would go on the left wing, if our interest is genuine? We're severely lacking left wingers at the club.

Definitely

I would assume he would go on the left wing

I thought he wanted to play central? The one position we really don't need a player!
