2017-2018 Summer Transfer Window

Posted by Ix Techau about 7 years ago · 461 replies

Squad rules terminology refresher:

  • We can register up to 25 players who are over 21
  • We can register a maximum of 17 non-homegrown players
  • Homegrown player means 36 months spent in England before end of season in which they turn 21
  • U21 player means any player born on or after January 1st 1996
  • U21 players don't have to be registered in order to play, which means we can have as many as we want

Confirmed transfers in/out:

  • Lacazette has signed for a club record £46m initial fee
  • Sanogo left on a free transfer on June 30th
  • Kolasinac joined on a free transfer on July 1st
  • Ospina has asked to be put on the transfer list
  • Lucas Perez has asked to be put on the transfer list
  • Wojciech Szczesny has joined Juventus for £10m

Likely transfers in/out:

  • Debuchy leaving has been on the cards for some time
  • Jenkinson could go on another season-long loan or permanent move
  • Unless said in jest, Wenger did say he wants to bid on Mahrez

Reading some of the suggestions that were posted here... Looks like Arsenalreport has finally gone full retard. Bring back Cesc? Young players will look up to him? To who? The cunt who stabbed us in the back? Cretins.

Meanwhile AC Milan is making some great buys without Champions League football.. These players should have been on Arsenal's colors though...

Ricardo Rodriguez, Frank Kessie already signed and now Andre Silva..

That shows how slow we can be. We should be more ruthless and quicker in the transfer market.

Benitez last transfer window made his signings early and was very successful. Aston Villa was very slow and got midtable.

Chelsea and Arsenal are interested in securing a summer transfer for Borussia Dortmund defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Goal understands.

The 29-year-old centre-back has suggested he is open to leaving the Bundesliga club in order to win silverware, with the Premier League pair both expressing an interest ahead of next season.

We don't need another centre-back. We have Koscielny, Mertesacker, Monreal, Mustafi, Holding, Chambers, and possibly Krystian Bielik. Right there are at most five experienced players and three developing and all good options to have.

Getting another centre-back is a waste of time and money unless it is an absolutely young player to transform the world like Mbappe.

Doubt on Mertesacker's physical ability. Only Koscielny, Mustafi, Holding are natural Centre-backs.. Monreal and Chambers are makeshifts.. so if we are continue to play with three at the back, we need another quality Centre-back to sustain any PL challenge and other Cup games.. (though a Centre-back is not a priority at present)

Don't really need a traditional CB for a three-man backline, hybrids are fine.

Still, I would say that Kos, Mus, Hol, and Mon are not enough to rotate in and out of PL, Cup games and Europa league if we want to challenge in all three, simply due to injuries and staminia. I'll happily accept a proven centreback

I think the depth of the squad is the least of the club's problems at the moment, we should focus on signing a world class striker. Mbappe, Belotti, and maybe Lacazette are good options. There's no reason why we can't be in the running to sign world class players so we can compete at the top of the table of prem.

Oh yeah a striker is definitely more crucial right now than a cb. All I mean is that Sokratis could be a good signing

Mbappe - out of hands, more likely to sign for Real Madrid and then go back to Monaco on loan. Morata - More likely to sign for ManUtd, somehow Arsene not gone for him. Belotti - Arsene made an approach earlier last season, but no talks of him this season though. Lacazette remains the available option... :(

Or ask Rafa when he won everything including a Europa League trophy.

I think it is higher than most of the teams and they don't have teams that big. Don't get me wrong. They can still kick us out.

We also have a fitness issue since the Europa League and Premier League are two days apart for the first six Europa League games. Going to be tough but perhaps give some youngsters some game time.

Anybody thought about how we might be missing a backup / future starter goalkeaper? ospina is leaving and cech is getting his age on, i've always thought emi martinez would make the cut but who knows

Martinez is well in that category and he can still learn from Cech.. But we need a plan B after Cech!!!

Too much luck involved in winning knockout tournaments for it to be worth prioritising it.

But we could end our Knockout losing streak in Europe this term... but still it looks a high hope!!!

There's reports of interest in Rui Patricio from Lisbon, he'd be a great replacement for Cech. What do you guys think?
