2017-2018 Summer Transfer Window

Posted by Ix Techau about 7 years ago · 461 replies

Squad rules terminology refresher:

  • We can register up to 25 players who are over 21
  • We can register a maximum of 17 non-homegrown players
  • Homegrown player means 36 months spent in England before end of season in which they turn 21
  • U21 player means any player born on or after January 1st 1996
  • U21 players don't have to be registered in order to play, which means we can have as many as we want

Confirmed transfers in/out:

  • Lacazette has signed for a club record £46m initial fee
  • Sanogo left on a free transfer on June 30th
  • Kolasinac joined on a free transfer on July 1st
  • Ospina has asked to be put on the transfer list
  • Lucas Perez has asked to be put on the transfer list
  • Wojciech Szczesny has joined Juventus for £10m

Likely transfers in/out:

  • Debuchy leaving has been on the cards for some time
  • Jenkinson could go on another season-long loan or permanent move
  • Unless said in jest, Wenger did say he wants to bid on Mahrez

Reading some of the suggestions that were posted here... Looks like Arsenalreport has finally gone full retard. Bring back Cesc? Young players will look up to him? To who? The cunt who stabbed us in the back? Cretins.

ARSENAL TO MAKE NEW LEMAR BID

Arsenal will make an improved offer for Monaco winger Thomas Lemar once they have completed the signing of Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette, according to the Evening Standard.

Monaco have already rejected a €35 million bid from Arsenal for Lemar, who is valued at more than double that amount by the Ligue 1 champions.

If Arsenal are unable to convince Monaco to sell Lemar then Arsene Wenger will turn to Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez as an alternative signing.

Unfortunately I think Lemar is the Sanchez replacement. Where else would he fit in? We could revert to 4-2-3-1 and have Lemar on the left and Sanchez on the right, Ozil behind Lacazette...but reverting back to that stale predictable 4-2-3-1 would be the dumbest decision ever made.

Wenger seem to think that there is nothing wrong with the system, just the players...but the 3-4-3 proved him wrong on that point. It showed that you can bring hidden talents out of players (e.g. Ox at RWB) and keep the opponents guessing...also shows that when you introduce a new system the players concentrate more instead of just going on autopilot in a system they've played a billion times.

So provided we're sticking with 3-4-3, Lemar would have to replace either Sanchez or Ozil, but Ozil seems to be loving life at Arsenal so I don't think he'll be leaving any time soon.

Exactly Lemar will be a direct replacement for Sanchez, rather than an addition.. so they're pressing this transfer, in order to sell Sanchez.. But the backup transfer plan of Mahrez, not convincing though...

They could have had lacazette for 10 million cheaper a year ago, and his presence might have averted the disaster of the 16-17 premier league, which would have also earned them that ucl money.

True, but asusual Wenger was not ready to pay the extra few millions as in the case of Xabi Alonso, Suarez etc.

In terms of the Sanchez contract negotiations, I think people don't really understand how contract/business negotiations work in general, or how agent/client relationships work in football. Agent and client usually discuss a rough figure they want to reach, client goes away to focus on holiday or footballing matters, agent starts off negotiations at twice that figure.

Of course an agent will want the best deal for its client, that’s the whole point of having an agent. They'll leak transfer interest rumours to the press to try and up the price, they'll play hardball any way they can. It's business, not personal.

I very much doubt Sanchez even cares what the final figure is, as long as his agent hits the agreed range. I also think it’s ridiculous to assume that Sanchez is holding the club to ransom. If you’re up for a pay rise at work, surely you would aim to get as much money as possible? Maybe you'll say things like "I've been offered £100k/year at this other company, which is tempting" just to get closer to what you want...would that be holding your employer ransom? No, it's just part of business negotiation tactics.

People seem to forget one thing: if Sanchez wanted to leave he wouldn't even have instructed his agent to negotiate a new contract. He is obviously open to staying, otherwise he'd just run down his contract and fuck off next summer. Signing a new contract with Arsenal harms his chances of moving to a new club, as his transfer fee will go up 5x. And spare me the conspiracy theories about using Arsenal negotiations as leverage to drive up some imaginary contract offer from elsewhere.

Also, let's stop this "unhappy player" nonsense...nothing Sanchez has done so far indicates that he wants to leave or that he is unhappy at Arsenal. We're so used to all these nice non-tantrum weakling players at Arsenal that as soon as someone gets pissed off for being subbed we automatically assume there is a disconnect. And yet we all complain that we don't have the fiery personalities anymore like Vieira, Keown, etc.

Wonder if we gonna keep Giroud. Will be nice, he is great from the bench. He won't like it but he is better than Welbeck, and Theo didn't get a chance up front in the new formation. We will be in bad shape on RM and LM if we gonna let Gibbs and Jenkinson, we gonna need more people. But don't see us linked with players that can cover that position.

Of course Giroud should play for Arsenal next season. I don't know why Lacazette's arrival has people thinking Giroud will leave...the gorgeous French bastard has literally said multiple times that he wants us to sign another striker he can compete with. He's an excellent alternative (or complimentary cough cheeky 4-4-2 cough) striker to Lacazette. Bring Giroud on in the 65th, let him do his thing.

I agree your point.. Here Sanchez's agent playing hard ball though.. But Arsenal needs to complete this contract saga as quickly as possible.. If no agreement reached, instead of allowing him to run down his contract, they can sell him for good amount now and sign a replacement at the earliest...

Giroud will be good enough from the bench to turn things around.. but it will surely impact his role in France's World cup spot next year... Also if he stays, we may need to sell Perez and/or Walcott...

LEMAR AGREES £90K ARSENAL DEAL

Arsenal have agreed personal terms of £90,000 a week with Thomas Lemar, but have still to reach a deal with Monaco for the winger, according to The Sun .

A second bid of €45 million for Lemar has reportedly been rejected by Monaco, who are under no pressure to cash in on the 21-year-old.

And, while Arsenal have reportedly agreed a long-term contract with Lemar, the player will not force through a summer transfer to the Emirates Stadium.

The Sun still don't understand how football transfers work. We can't agree personal terms until Monaco give us permission to do so...and seeing how they have rejected all our bids so far, there is no way in hell we have been able to agree anything with Lemar.

So I'm guessing there's some substance to these Lemar rumours?

There definitely is, but like most Arsenal transfer rumors, it's not close to done, as Monaco are holding out for much more than 40-50 million.

Is it possible that Arsenal have been in talks with Lemar's agent, and that they have agreed that 90k a week is fair IF he goes to Arsenal. I could be wrong, but it would seem like that's possible.

So Arsenal is breaking the rules and everyone knows about it?
