The Almighty 2015 Summer Transfer Window Thread

Posted by VA10 about 9 years ago · 476 replies

I know it's too early but I've just had a brilliant idea of an ideal Summer transfer window so I opened the thread, sue me.

So the news is we'll have 50 million quid for the Summer, here's what I'd do:

  • 10 million for Cech, he's the kind of a goalkeeper that wins you trophies
  • 40 million for Reus, love the guy
  • Khedira on a free.

Boom cancel the transfer window we've won it.

Still can't pull off a list on this contraption...

Is there any reason that's acceptable why Wenger's post shouldn't be under threat if we finish 10 points behind City thus fail to challenge?

Let's see where we are in January. The stubbornness is getting tiring, but Wenger does have two FA Cup trophies in the last two years so he's obviously doing something right.

With Man City and Chelsea making the Premier League their own competition, and then Man Utd and Liverpool throwing cash around as if they won a lottery, it's unrealistic to think that we should be automatically fighting for the title. There are four tiers of quality in the Premier League:

  1. Man City and Chelsea
  2. Arsenal, Liverpool and Man Utd
  3. Most other teams
  4. Three or four guaranteed relegation candidates

It's going to take a long time to upset that balance. And until we do, we'll be fighting for third or second place, at best.

I've just had a look at Sanogo's characteristics on whoscored and they seem too harsh

Doesn't tell you his potential! Does it? Apparently you should looks as Costa's characteristics

  • Strengths Finishing Strong Key passes Strong Headed attempts Strong

  • Weaknesses Offside awareness Weak Aerial Duels Weak Discipline Weak Diego Costa's Style of Play Likes to dribble Counter attack threat Gets fouled often Commits fouls often

Wouldn't be surprised he'd actually do well in the Eredivisie, just because of his physical strength. Might get a better price for him after his loan too.

Hearing some rumours of us being interrested in Dzeko today. Some say we should aim for a world-beater and not a third choice Man City striker, but I can't help feeling he would improve our squad depth immensely. He's way better than Welbeck is at the moment, and probably not far off Giroud, which would give us two high class strikers to compete for the spot and substitute each other if the other doesn't perform.

I haven't seen all of his games (naturally) and neither have I seen Benzema's, but from what I have seen, I can't say Benzema is that much better than Dzeko. They might bring two different tactical approaches, but from what I can tell, buying Dzeko would be a coup.

Wouldn't say he's better than Welbeck, but only because they are so different so it's hard to compare the different styles. Welbeck is such a traditional poacher - his positioning in the box is world class. Watch him during a game and see where he is when someone else attempts a shot, he's always in a rebound position waiting to pounce.

Dzeko is much more like Giroud in that he drops down to get involved in play, preferring to play with his back to the goal and bring everyone with him in an attack. I wouldn't mind him at Arsenal, but only if he's the backup to Giroud and doesn't take Welbeck's place in the chain.

Benzema is miles beyond Dzeko in my opinion. Benzema is a modern all-round striker that can do a bit of everything. He reads the play and adapts to become a poacher if needed, or a target man if needed. He's the ultimate team player, and a very prolific striker as well. Always a lot of assists, key passes and goals.

I'm not saying Benzema is the best CF in the world, but realistically he might be the best CF we can get our hands on. He is fantastic, and fits in well with our team-first philosophy. He's the kind of player that if he needed one more goal in the final match of the season to win the golden boot, but one of our youngsters had the chance on a hat-trick, he'd make the pass instead of shooting himself.

Might still be in for him, but he did publicly declare his loyalty to Lyon yesterday.

I publicly declare my loyalty to KFC on a daily basis but that doesn't mean I won't go for a cheeky Nando's.

Farewell sweet Flamini.

Awww....I love the guy. Made a huge impact in his first comeback season, was bossing our midfield around like it owed him money. Sadly declined last season, but he's always been a favourite ever since his first season. He was complete boss at LB. Glad we got to see him back at Arsenal.

bye

M.A.J ‏@UltraSuristic El Confidencial: Benzema told Wenger that he'd be willing to join Arsenal this summer if his position in Madrid's squad becomes unstable.

Not only would this improve our squad, it would also show other clubs we're definitely back in business, buying top players three seasons in a row.

But he scores about 15 goals per season in the league..I don't see him galvanising the team...

He plays second fiddle to Cristiano & Bale. Whereas all of our play goes through our striker. He should hit 20+ easily

Yeah, it's going to be tough for Madrid to let him go. Name an available striker that is considered the same or better than Karim...

Availability depends how much are you willing to pay for the club to let a player go. You have Cavani, Rues, Higuain and Lacazette available.
